A few video-related websites or books.
Forums:
- DV Info Net – an advanced forum that covers practically every camcorder / tool / technique. Mostly professional, newbies not accepted.
- Sony HDV Info .com – the historical, nearly defunct forum for the HDV format, which was founded in September 2004 when Sony was launching the HDR-FX1. Essentially devoted to Sony camcorders, but also contains many interesting skill-sharing threads that are hardware-agnostic and can apply to just any camcorder.

Books:
- The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction (by Steve Hullfish) – an immensely interesting book written in an approachable, considerate, no-nonsense style. This book is not about the nuts & bolts of Apple Color or Avid or any other tool, it will instead teach you skills that you can reuse regardless of whichever color correction tool you have.
- The HVR-V1 and HDR-FX7 Handbook (by Steve Mullen) – quote “The HVR-V1 and HDR-FX7 Handbook is not an “HDV for Dummies” book that simply expands upon the often poorly written camcorder manuals. It is a comprehensive introduction to HDV technology, HDV shooting, HDV post-production, and distribution”.
Technical reference:
- Frank’s thoughts on HDV (also includes complete coverage of AVCHD and XDCAM EX) – quote: “The mission behind this Web page is to describe the major technical aspects of the HDV high definition digital video tape recording format and to be as comprehensive a reference resource as possible by listing essentially every HDV and HDV-related product ever offered by any manufacturer anywhere in the world”. [Note - Jan 2009: Frank's page is no longer maintained and is now only available in the Internet Archive]
